October begins the ramping up of hatching season for us again here on the farm. This allows us to offer newly hatched chicks and ducklings all fall and winter. It also gives us a head start for spring 2013 and having birds grown out to being ready to lay. This creates ready made flocks available to be bought in the spring as well as newly hatched babies to raise yourself.
We will be publishing our hatching calender again here soon, and updating as we set new rounds of eggs. Below is a list of breeds you can expect for us to be setting this fall and winter.
Chickens:
- Easter Eggers
- Black Copper Marans
- Light Brahmas
Ducks:
- Khaki Campbells
- Silver Aplleyards
- Ancona
Geese will start laying early in 2013, we will be breeding the following:
- Sebastopols Buff, Lilac, Lavender, White we are also running a grey curly gander, and a grey saddleback gander in the breeding groups next year
- Buff Dewlap Toulouse
- American (1 pair Blue Gander/Lavender goose)
